Confessional Writings
Peace Lutheran is a Confessional Lutheran Church.
Unfortunately, it is not enough for a church to simply say that we believe in the Bible. Many churches, and even cult groups, make that same claim. To that end, the Lutheran church has writings, which explain our beliefs. These are not additions to the Bible. We believe these particular writing to be in accord with the Bible.
When we ordain our Pastors, they confess their belief that our Lutheran Confessional writings are in accord with God's Word.
When someone asks, what do Lutherans believe, we often point them to Luther's Small Catechism. This short document was put together by Martin Luther for parents to teach their children the basics of the Christian faith. It remains in great use within our church, and even among homeschool parents seeking an organized way to teach the Christian faith. The Small Catechism is readable online at this link.
As the Lutheran Church defended it's beliefs in the 1500's they wrote other documents which have been gathered in what is called The Book of Concord. These writings are more extensive, but are wonderful reading for anyone desiring to learn more about the Lutheran Christian faith. The online link to the Book of Concord is found here.
